HC1 Audio Dilema

I bought an HC1 long before the A1U came out. I have gotten a lot more serious about video, and I now need some better audio tools. Because Sony made the HC1 a bottom tape-loader, I really don't want to strap a Beachtek to the bottom of the camera and then on my tripod. I was wondering if there are any other alternatives to an XLR microphone adapter. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. Can you buy the XLR adapter used on the A1U and plug it into the HC1? If so, what is the part number because I can't find it on Sony's website? Thanks.

With the DeMaagd bottom adapter, you can mount the Beachtek and have easy access to the bottom of the deck. Or, you can still use the Beachtek, but Velcro/mount it to your tripod.
I've been told there is a hack to allow the A1 audio module to mount on the HC1, but that would void your warranty. I've tried the module on the HC1 and it doesn't work as-is, you might find the hack somewhere online. I didn't look very hard.

I would seriously consider "biting the bullet" and either selling the HC1 on Craigslist.com or keeping it as an emergency second unit (better).

While I regularly preach "don't buy more than you need - it's going to be obsolete soon, anyway" - I also feel that for a musician, the value of XLR connectors, coupled with the side loading of the A1 is well worth the expense.

Spot/vicmilt - Thanks for the reply and advice. I probably will upgrade my camcorder, but not until I see some of the footage to compare the V1U and the new Canon cameras(would love to get RED but too much $$$) or if anything new will come out of NAB.
