HC7 not recognized

Connect up my HC7 through a ADVC 300 and VP8 does not recognize it. Connect from camera to regular firewire port (4 to 6pin) and still not recognized. Use HDSplit in either connection method and HC7 is recognized every time.

Anyone have any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Under Option/Preferences "Uncheck" the use external program to capture video.
You use that program to capture DV.

For HDV, plug the cam into the computer, then turn the cam on.
Hit the capture Icon, a box should pop-up and select to capture HDV, then in the capture screen go under Preferences (the preferences in the little capture screen, it's an icon) and find the device tab, click on the dropdown box and select your cam.

I own both the HC7 and the HV20. Both are recognized fine. With the HC7, I do need to remember to rewind the tape to the beginning for it to be recognized appropriately, something I didn't have to do with Vegas 6.0d. Other than that... No problems.

Or, you may have to have the tape playing. It may depend on your settings under the cams setup menu.

In the setup menu of the Sony cams the firewire port will output HDV or DV depending on what's written on the tape. So if you recorded 3 minutes of HDV and then 3 minutes of DV the firewire port will auto-switch the output from HDV to DV to match whats written on the tape. This is selectable in the setup menu. I have mine manually set to HDV.
Maybe find this in the setup menu and tell the cam to only output HDV.

Thanks for the help. I didn't go into the preferences and uncheck the external program to capture. I thought I remembered getting a pop-up box when I started capture that would allow me to select either HDV or external program. Maybe I am remembering V7.

Anyway, thanks for the help. Working right now.
