HD 25p+4:3 SD 50i =>25p Widescreen DVD

I'd like to render a 25p widescreen DVD from various footage. One input footage is 25p HD (95% of movie time) and second one is 4:3 SD 50i (5% on the movie time).

What is the best method to mix this without significant loss of quality.

Should I:
1. Upscale 4:3 50i SD to 25p HD and then edit it as all ather clips?
2. Set project settings to 25p widescreen SD and use deinterlace filter?

Any other suggestions, please?

I would start at #2 and see if you have problems with interlaced footage. The SD content will just have black bars on the sides of the footage.

Unfortunately after using the method #2 I still see interlace artefacts.
To eliminate visible interlace I have to set the project settings to "Interlaced" with the same field order, as the interlaced footage. However it does not correspond with my output settings (SD 25p).
I still can't figure out how to convert SD 50i to SD 25p without losing the quality?

Have tried to convert 50i first to 50p? Just render the 50i to 50p but leave resample on and set deinterlace to interpolate. Then try and render the 50p to 25p.

Unfortunately after using the method #2 I still see interlace artifacts.What are you seeing, and what are you using to view the video? Are you looking at the video as it plays, or are you looking at individual still frames? You will always see herring bone "teeth" when viewing a still image from interlaced footage, using Best-->Full in Vegas preview or in most other viewing software. This is normal.

I always recommend to NOT deinterlace because most people do all sorts of damage to the video, trying to remove "artifacts" that are perfectly normal, and won't be seen when the video is viewed on most TVs or computers.

Yadif Deinterlace plugin (http://www.yohng.com/software/yadifvegas.html) finally solved my problem.
