HD-DVD, Blueray and mpeg2

On most current SD DVD players these days, you can play an SD mpeg2 file just by burning it to disk and sticking it in the player. It will show up in the directory like an mp3 and play video when you select it.

Wouldn't it be cool if HD-DVDs and Blueray players did the same thing with hi-def mpeg2 or mpeg4 files! Just burn em on to a standard red laser DVD-R and click on em.

I was thinking this and then I thought: maybe they do! Has anyone tried this? Does it work or do we have to wait for the cheap Chinese players?
