hd file on dvd?

well i asked my mentor bob, but i think he's having a day off (are you?)...

if i produce a hd and sd version of a short promo, is there any way of
using dvda to produce a dvd which has an 'extras' folder linked to a
menu page, which would then give the option of playing the hd version on
a pc? (maybe a .wmv file?)

The sort answer is No!
I did a search on the DVDA forum for something as simple as a hyperlink and even that's extremely iffy. You can create a DVD with a autorun file that installs a player or causes WMP to play a file off the DVD etc but then you'd have to also have that optionally open the DVD player app. Really sounds like a nightmare.

Simpler approach would be a note on the DVD label, slick or a page in the DVD itself.

DVDA now has an option to add extra files to the DVD, you can also do this by burning with Nero.

Warning: As you're most likely authoring a 16:9 PAL DVD there is still a major bug in DVDA 4. Do not use Text Highlighting and even Text Underlining is looking a bit suspect.

Check your DVD on with a STB player setup for a 4:3 TV.

Render your HiDef wmv files to a folder (I use "DVD Extras"). In DVDA go to Files-Properties. Half way down that tab you'll see "Extras Folder." Browse to your folder and add it.

Now your SD videos will play as normal in a DVD player. But I add a note on the main menu page the directs "Browse this DVD with Explorer to access high definition wmv files to play on your PC."

Well, what I use to do is to burn m2t-1080 50i files - rendered from the timeline - to iso-dvds, using Nero. On a 4.3 GB DVD you can burn 22 minutes, on a DVD-DL up to 40 minutes. Off course, most DVD-players are not able to playbac such a DVD - can be done from PC, from some special players. Alternative, a good idea is to use players like the TViX-HD or the Kiss, that are able to playback HDV material from harddisk or DVDs.
