HD in Vegas 5?

Hi all,

Sorry for the noob question.. I'm thinking of upgrading to a HD Vid camera (HV20 possibly) and wonder if I will be able to capture/edit the 1080 video in Vegas 5 or will I need to upgrade to Vegas 7?

Also, if anyone knows - will I be able to edit the video using either a 1280*1024 or 1400*900 resolution monitor?

Otherwise I'm wondering whether it would be better to buy a non HD camera?

Thanks :)

Vegas 5 can handle HDV in principle, but you will need a capture program (like the free HDVSpilt). Also you will need to use a intermediate codec in order to keep the editing process smoothly as Vegas 5 does not handle native MPEG2 files on the timeline very well (look for Cineform codec). Finally Vegas 5 has a color bug with HDV since it doesn't recognize the different color space of HD and SD.
In other words: Forget it. Just update to 7 and all these issues are solved.
Your two monitor resolutions will both work fine (in all versions of Vegas).

Go for the HDV--it's that much better.

Any monitor that works with Vegas will do just fine with Vegas editing HDV--it's exactly the same process.
