HD & Laptop Field Editing Info Request

I'm researching information on the best workflow methods for editing HD footage in the field. More or less geared towards using laptops and external drives for capture - specifically for underwater shooters on liveaboards, that kind of thing. Vegas appears to be the best solution regarding hardware requirements - Does anyone have input, links, etc for this topic?

TIA,

I use a DELL-laptop (Inspiron 8600) with 1,4 Ghz pentium and 768Mb Ram.

As long as you use Cineform's HDLink for capturing and converting to AVI-files, I have no problem editing HDV on this system. It's actually quite smooth and pleasant to work with.

An external USB2.0-harddrive is a fine companion.
