HD or not HD that is the question.

Hi,

I ask this question after reading a rather complicated piece from a thread on
Creative Cow, regarding HD. It started in a question on the Vegas Forum from
2/11/03--does Vegas do HD? According to a SoFo tech a bit back, no. But this
guy says it outputed 1080i! Is Vegas 4 defying it's creators? How is this
possible??????

He is not capturing with vegas and it pertains to slide shows only. If you put
1600 x 1200 pictures on the timeline then render it as MPEG2 and set main
profile to HL 1444 instead of main it will render 1080i. He is also using
about umpteen million worth of equipment. This is basically what he is doing and
the settings are part of the Main Concept codec which is maybe why SOFO is
concerned.

Hi all,

There are probably a number of folks trying this right now... I did, it worked.

I cropped some dv test footage and rendered to 1920x1088 progressive. (Then I remembered, you can't make chicken-salad from chicken-sh*t.) Video will look best if you start with HD, then output to HD.

The usefulness of HD right now is very user-specific. I have no current need, but I really like knowing the brilliant minds at SoFo have built an architecture pointed at the future.

I think the take-home message of the excercise, is that Vegas will be ready for HD when we are... consumer/prosumer HD is at our doorstep and Vegas will no doubt be a part of it. Full- functionality will almost certainly come at a price, but if I need it, I will gladly pay SoFo for it.
