HD rendering to SD

How long does it take to render HD content to SD? On some previous posts I noticed that with a good computer system, render times of HD to HD were at least twice the duration of the content. Are the render times significantly less - the same, or more - if rendering to SD? I am trying to upgrade my video equipment, and I'm trying to understand the impact of recording the source material in HD (I only need SD for web streaming video). What I am discovering is that the newer generation of quality recording cameras (flash memory) - only record video in HD.

I regularly do that. Rendering is relatively fast for my 1440x1080 AVCHD footage when it goes down to standard DVD resolution. Editing is also much faster than when keeping the project properties in HD realm. That was in V9b. Haven't explorered V10 yet.

Thanks for the response. That is interesting - to me anyway! I didn't realize you could do that: set HD content to SD properties. Is the rendering time similar to when working with SD content?

Haven't actually tried as I moved to VMS when I was editing AVCHD (.m2ts) files almost exclusively. In my limited tests, VMS performance for editing HD AVCHD files (when project properties are set for SD) not quite as fast as native SD. But, that is just qualitative observation. But no where enar as slow as HD clips being edited and rendered with project properties in HD.
