HD stills, more questions

I have no experience with HD, but wanted to give it a try.

If I want to try to make a hi-def video photo slide show that can be played back on a wide screen hi-def TV, what would be the most economical way to get a Vegas HD project from my computer to the HD TV?

I have some 1MB 2592x1944 photos. Also I am being mailed some 20MB photos, not sure what they are, but I beleive they are tiff files.

Should I use the Vegas HD 1080-30p (1920x1080, 29.970 fps) template?

Thanks,

Jeff

At the present time if you have the MY-HD 120 0r 130 video card you can render your photos using the HDV 1080i or HDV720p data stream, change the file ending from m2t to tp then enter the file into the MY-HD file player and it will play fine with sound. Or, if you have the Cineform Connect HD codec from Sony make sure the file ending is m2t then using Cineform Print to Tape to the JVC D-VHS VCR or the new Sony HDV VCR then with the firewire connection go direct to your HDTV tuner connection and it will also play fine. If you have a Sony Z1 camera you can PTT to that camera from Cineform then out of the camera from the "I" link to component video to the HDTV and it will play fine. And then if you can wait till the HD-DVD players are available then you can burn it to HD-DVD as long as the burners are also available. I can tell you sound discouraged.

Any idea when the HD DVD recorder/players will be available?
How long and what kind of a cable could I connect a My-HD card from my computer to my HD TV?

Thanks for the info, just what I wanted to know.

My analog and DVI cables are 36 feet. The toslink cables are 50 feet. The serial cable for the remote control is 36 feet. Those are the lengths that I needed to go from upstairs to downstairs. Use the Toslinks for 5.1 audio. You will crap your pants at the quality.
The players and burners will be available maybe at the end 2005.
Just a guess.

I'm just watching a slide show that I encoded overnight. Looks great at 720p, no reason why you couldn't do it at 1080 either. For stills WMV handles it quite nicely at 1Mb/sec. HD DVD players are available now in the US.

I looked into the MyHD 130 card. I have non DVI LCD computer monitors, My XBR910 TV has a DVI in.

Can I edit with Vegas without DVI monitors?
Will I need a transcoder or VGA to Component Dongle?
Can I watch HDTV on my computer LCD monitors without DVI?
Do I need the DVI daughter card to output HD to my XBR TV?

Pardon all the questions, thanks for the help,

Jeff

1. Yes. In fact it's preferred to use analog cable to bnc component input on the monitor by some people including me. The DVI connector is very fast being supplanted by the HDMI connector. But remember that editing SD in Vegas is a piece of cake but HDV is pushing the envelope. Vegas timeline viewing exits out the firewire connection to a digital/analog converter to a monitor (NTSC/PAL). So when you are editing HDV it is in the DV -AVI format and has mucho data to display. You might check some other current threads on this forum about HDV stuff.
2. No.
3. Yes, but it won't be HD with the MY-HD card. The MY-HD card will send video to the HDTV and to your computer monitor but the monitor will not show HD if it is not capable. It will be something less. The
4. No. The XBR has component input (The My-HD selects analog or DVI) so you feed it with the analog cable with the D-15 connector connected to My-HD and the other end of the cable is converted to BNC (5 bnc's of different colors of which you only use three) Then if needed convert those bnc's to Rca's to plug into the component section of the xbr. This is how mine is hooked up. The sound can be standard Rca connectors or Toslink for the 5.1. The Rca's come from your sound card and the Toslink from the DVI daughter card.

5. Remeber that the MY-HD card only works in XP.

James,

Thanks for all the info, Now I am thinking of going the HD deck route, since I will eventually need one anyway. I need to google around some more.

Just got spammed this article, haven't read it all:

I am <slowly> moving into the HDV area.... and have been adding to my list of "essential things to buy". On the HD / DVD player route the AVeL Linkplayer2 is definitely on the list.

The Avel Link is a very nice machine, no doubt. But if you're not in the market right now, today....wait a month. ;-)

Good point... it is THAT time of the year.

When DSE says wait a month, that means something.
