HD to SD deinterlace and stretch

I'm looking for the best workflow for downconverting my XDCAM HD in Vegas down to SD DVDs.

Vegas works fine with the files with a HDV 1080i project, since that is the correct resolution.

A problem is that DV widescreen has a slightly different aspect ratio than HDV. So should I just use the "stretch to fill screen" option when I render? Is this actually restoring me to the correct aspect ratio at the lower resolution, or is it making people slightly fatter?

Now as for deinterlacing, what is the correct setting for that for the best results going from 1440X1080i to 720X480i? Blend or interpolate? I take it if it was set to "none" it would just throw away a field to cut the resolution in half, which would probably be bad, right?

Thanks.

1) Yes if you edit in a HD project and render to SD then the option during render to "Stretch Video...do not letterbox" will fix the slight difference in PAR.

2)Take your pick on the de-interlace method, I use Blend as I don't have any fast motion. If you are going from 50/60i HD to 50/60i SD and do not specify a de-interlace method you will get absolutely horrid artifacts. Your output is still interlaced though. This setting tells Vegas to de-interlace before downscaling and the it re-interlaces. If a NLE doesn't de-interlace before downscaling really horrible things happen. The first screenshot here:

is a really good example of what happens and horror of horrors, I've seen footage like that go to air, YUCK!
