HD WMV Create Doesn't Work

When I select any of the HDV templates in WMV format, and click the NEXT button, it just flashes and nothing happens. No error, no nothing. The original clips I tried 1st were all recorded on the HD-FX1 in 1080i. The best I can create is 3MB 640x480 video, which is OK but not HD DV. Anything in HD just a quick flash then nothing.

Then I tried using some 1080p sample files from the MS Website for HD WMV source figuring they would be pristine, and still no go. What's the fix or what am I doing wrong? Using an HP MediaCenter PC w/dual core 820CPU250G HD 1.5GB memory.

I'd like to use wmv for HD distribution if at all possible, although .mpg is another possibility, but when I use those options I get an .m2t files (?) rather than .mpg file. I don't know why this happens..I thought those ( .m2t) were only for intermediate files? And of course they don't play in anything that I have.

I've searched a bit and found some other experiencing this exact same problem with .wmv, yet I can't find any updates or fixes to the program. After spending $2000 for the Sony HD Camcorder and Sony MS Platinum 6.0, plus this fancy PC to do HD work, I'm more than puzzeled, I upset!

Please Help!

There's a work-around in this thread:

If you're hoping to deliver HDV content on a DVD Video disk (via MPEG), it's not going to happen (at least not for a while).

Is the reason that the native resolution of DVD today is 480p ?
I guess my point is that this is not a software issue, it is an issue with the current DVD specification?

I see some commercial DVD's that say that they are mastered in HD and that would make sense as that will give the best possible material for the rendering to MPEG in 480p.

I'm sure someone can provide a more intelligent discussion that I can, but is an interesting debate as the "pro-sumer" now can get their hands on a HD camera for 2 grand.
I guess that I could connect my HD camera to my HD TV and enjoy 1080i material directly from the camera?

Happy Holidays!
