No reason that I can see. DVCPRO HD is 100 Mbps and is transmitted over Firewire.

I would assume that Firestores could handle DVCPRO HD feeds from an HVX200?

That's exactly what their new product will do:

That makes the HVX a much more viable purchase solution.

"The FireStore DTE recorder for HVX200 is expected to be available in March 2006 and price will be less than $2,000"

How much less than $2000 is what I'm wondering - that camera sounds amazing and I'm sure tapeless aquisition is not far off but the costs and reliability both concern me. That P2 media is insane $$$ and I don't know how comfortable I would feel having all my raw footage going to a harddrive with no back up.

Does anyone have any firestore experience?

Unless they've changed their ways they're still using drives formated as FAT32. Between that and the high data rates involved one has to wonder about the risk of bits getting lost when switching files, having to stitch all the bits back on the T/L and the number of these units you'd need to accomodate a days shooting.
A much better solution should be the recently announced device from Cineform. Apart from throm anything else their codec is much superior to DVCPRO.

I'm pretty sure, less than $2000. is not one penny less than $1999.95.
