mmm.... i can use clip browser, but i don't think any of my clients would pay $'s to watch a file - they'd simply ask me to transcode to something simpler.
i wonder if vlc are likely to incorporate hdcam sr lite into a future release? most other mxf's seem to play quite happily....
'On the PC the best option is the MXF viewer. it's legacy software but still supported through Windows 7. http://www.sony.com/xdcam-downloads under 'Applications...'-->Legacy Applications. plays back any XDCAM MXF, high res or proxy."
The whole open source ffmpeg world does not support HDCAM SR, which is supposedly MPEG-4 Sstp but maybe with some tweaks.
AFAIK, Little if anything supports HDCAM SR in files. Vegas 12 might have been the first. the history of HDCAM is proprietary tapes in proprietary machines.
I have tried to use HDCAM SR as an intermediate for things like Handbrake and other ffmpeg based tools but no dice. This also eliminates VLC, Media Player classic and others.

I understand the not wanting to pay anything aspect but not the "simpler", SR is anything but simple.
Anyways why not try the Content Browser, it might not even play SR Lite. If it does you might not even need to pay just to play a file, I've only got it on one PC here as I got it when it was being offered for free. A couple of days ago we downloaded and installed it on a Mac and it seemed to work without any licence key but I don't know if that as because of a grace period or if you only need to pay for the full set of features. Sure worth a shot either way as it and the Clip Browser co-exist nicely.
