HDCAM SR Workflow

What pieces of hardware and in what configuration is needed to work with HDCAM SR? (obviously the correct deck) Need an AJA or Blackmagic or something of the sort? Need to bring the raw HD footage into the system...would be nice to edit at full rez...but don't know if that's possible. If we have to do an offline edit...what workflow do you guys suggest?

I know vegas handles HD...but only up to 8-bit..right? What are the limits to doing this in Vegas? We can do this on a DS Nitris...but would like to take vegas out for a drive....

thanks
Jeremiah

Do you want to edit uncompressed 8-bit 4:2:2 HD or 10-bit uncompressed 4:4:4 HD?

I don't think Vegas handles 4:4:4 (no codec?)... and it doesn't handle 10-bit.

You'll need the MultiBridge Extreme from BMD and a seriously fast disk array. As you've noted though the Vegas internals are only 8 bit and I have no clue as to how Vegas will cope with 10 or 12 bit.
Vegas can handle 10bit SD through it's 8 bit pipeline, I guess it'd work also with SR but would seem kind of pointless if you'd spent all that money shooting SR.
Of course once you'd forked out all that serious cash for the hardware to do this on the cost of say PPro that can handle it would seem very trivial.

Of course if you just wanted to do something with it in Vegas a targa sequence would be one way but you'd need something else to create the sequence.

vegas not being able to handle anything above 8-bit or 4:4:4 is the major down side.

we'll probably end up sticking with the nitris...just wanted to put vegas to the test...i think the only way we can pull vegas to a higher a level is to start using at the higher level...even without 4:4:4....just thought I would try...who knows....might just do an offline edit on vegas..somehow...

>>You'll need the MultiBridge Extreme from BMD<<

uhh, you'll need a lil more than that (like a mobo that will work with BMD).

Editing - you can possibly get by Liquid 7. Anybody ever use this yet?
I have to install it (grrrrr...;( and get up to speed on it in a few weeks.
(I love my vegas)
