But seriously - did you look at the pictures? OMG! he is so right - it is betamax circa 1982. The DMR-E700BD looks like it is a cross between an erly beta deck and an early laserdisk player. And woah - look at the Hewlett-Packard's HD DVD!!! Geez!!
Ok - I am "Spolied" I guess. At first seeing these nearly pocket sized players I was weirded out but got used to them. And the slim ones as well. Now seeing these just make me wonder "ugh, where would I put that??"
Ok, so how many people are going to have to build add ons to their living rooms just to house these monsters?
Is there a seriously good reason for the size of these? Do they run that hot insid that they need all that extra space for air circulation? Compared to today's DVD players, you could house two maybe three drives in those.Cant wait for the slim line versions to come out in three years.
Like I said in a previous post... I am waiting on the holographic disc/players/burners as they seem to have all the benefits... they "say" they are only 2 years out.
Holo will be great for storage but I seriously dont see any labels supporting it for content delivery/viewing. No way has HD DVD/BD camp spent all this money investing in HD players to turn around in two years and start distributing films all over again.
Holo will awesome for storing uncompressed material for editing though.
None of the images show how big or how small the players are. There is only the cited review, which didn't get around to technical stuff (like how big). I'm surprised that size and glitz are the primary concerns of so many. I want something that works extremely well and keeps on doing it for a long time without attention. If it needs to be bigger to do that look like an item from a Dr Who set, that's OK with me. Actually, I want one that records.
