Do you mean (FX1 + Mini35) v (XL2 + Mini35)?
And what's your target delivery?
I'd say even for SD shoot with the FX1 and the Mini35 in HDV and downconvert in Vegas rendering to Sony 4:2:2 and out to DB if you've got the gear and the budget. You're pretty much broadcast quality from what I can see.
Bob.
FX1 is using better CCD's than the Matsushita-made ones used by the Canon. The low light performance is slightly better on the Sony, unless you're willing to use a lot of gain and would accept the resulting image degradation.
If low light is an issue, you'd be better off if you could wait a bit and go for the Z1. The Hypergain combined with a more broad dynamic range would be worthwhile. As HDV mentions, the SuperHAD chips found in the FX1 and Z1 are far and away superior to the Canon. Even though the Canon has a lower lux rating, the Z1 looks as good as the PD 170 due to the added resolution.
I called up the rental place and they said that have "soluttion." I need to see some test and comparisons images/video clips... anyone can point me in the right direction?
Be sure to see it in practice before spending money to rent it.
We hack-jobbed the mini35 onto the JVC HD1, and while it did sort of work, it didn't retain the same FOV as a 35mm movie camera. We were able to use a PD150 connecting kit.
However, the FX1's 72mm lens would probably mean major vignetting if you tried to use a PD150 kit. (well, I don't know about "probably", let's say it "might"). And I'd bet twenty bucks that the DVX connecting kit wouldn't fit the FX1, because it has a huge focus ring shround designed onto it. Plus it'd have to have appropriate-strength diopters incorporated into it to allow focusing on the mini35's ground glass...
I don't know, I guess it's "possible" that an existing adapter kit could work with the FX1, but that would seem like a longshot, it'd seem like they'd need to design the connector to work specifically with the camera. Try visiting ZGC.com and ask them if they have an FX1 connection kit.
I think that P+S should have something by NAB. Their latest generation Mini35 is using a different type of motion than the older versions; there is no hot spot and it should be compatable with FX1/Z1. Until then some slight mod of their existing product may work.
Carlomazzortocchi , hod do you play back those m2v files? I want to open one of those files in After Effects and deinterlace using Magic Bullet and see the results but i can't.
Not sure about AE... but you should be able to drop .m2t or .m2v files on the timeline in Vegas, then render out as an uncompressed AVI (assuming you have enough hard disk space!) and then import that into AE.
