HDR-HC3 no show in Pro 8

I started my video hobby using VMS 8, and then installed Pro 8. I am running Vista64 Home Premium.

While using VMS, capture of m2t files from Sony HDR-HC3 works perfectly. The capture program seems to be "built-in" (i.e. same process) as the rest of VMS.

However, using Pro 8, I cannot get the HDR-HC3 to be recognized. It also appears the capture software is independent (i.e. different process) from Pro8.

Is there a configuration somewhere I am not seeing. Thank you.

With Vegas you should also be using the built in HDV/SDI capture method. The external program VidCap.exe will not capture HDV.

Bob, I am not at my Pro8 system now, but I do recall a configuration setting setting for specifying the capture program. Do you know what the setting should be for the HDV/SDI capture?

Thanks,
Mike

You have a couple choices. If you don't have a choice when you select File > Capture Video for DV or HDV/SDI you must have must have checked Always use selected format sometime prior along with DV. To get the choice back select Options then while holding down the shift key select Preferances. Then select the Internal tab. Caution! You can shoot yourself in the foot here. Go to the bottom of the popup to Show only Prefs Containing and type (without quotes) "Capture". In the next popup you will see Ask About Capture App. It should say False. Double click on False and type True and hit enter. Now when you select Video Capture you will get a choice HDV/SDI or DV. If you don't want to get the choice you can also go the Options > Preferances > Video and uncheck Use External capture application for HDV/SDI or check it for DV.

Works fine for my HC3. :)

Thanks so much, I will check it out this evening. I have settled on the workflow of always capturing/editing HDV, and using Vegas to render to DV for those family/firends unable to view Blu-ray DVD.
