HDV 1080i m2t renders to 1080i m2t

I have been working with editing/rendering my 1440X1080i m2t captures from a Canon XH-A1 using Vegas 7.

In order to add titles, transitions, additional audio and stitch the scene captures together, I have to render the raw 1440X1080i m2t captures back to a 1440X1080i m2t file from the timeline.

I have the quality slider set to 31, as high as it will go (which I have to reset every render, frustrating), but I am still getting a little degradation of the video. On scenes with titles, pixelation is obvious around the title text, on scenes that had nothing done to them, they are very good but do appear to have a little degradation and desaturation.

My question; would I be a good candidate to upgrade to Vegas 8 and does smart render in V8 leave unedited video untouched?

Any suggestions are welcome.

FYI, the 1440X1080i m2t files are the end product I am looking for. They are converted to a PS (m2p) file in another program for burning to HD media.

You can save presets so you don't have to adjust the slider everytime.

Yes. Vegas 8 leaves the untouched footage alone, but currently I (and others) have not been able to get it to work without glitches so currently I have the feature turned off.

Anytime you encode from a lossless format to a lossless format you will incur loss in quality. That is why there are intermediaries. Whenever Vp8 works correctly with the smart render, it would make sense to go that route, but until then, it is of no use to me even though that is one of the primary reasons I upgraded. Also, it may be worth buying the upgrade now for the discount and banking that they will have some way to fix this issue with letter releases.

Thanks jrazz.

Hopefully smart render in V8 will work soon, it would be great for me.

PS: I think you meant lossy format to lossy format.
Im about sick of HDV as a format. With 1TB drives available, it's time to move on to something bigger and better.

You are correct. I did mean lossy.
