HDV and MPEG AVC/H.264 on the same timeline

I just got a XH-A1(HDV) and trying to decide between an HV40 (HDV) or a Panasonic TM700 (H.264).
I really like the tapeless TM700 and it has gotten great reviews but wondering if I would regret it later.
I'm getting whichever of the smaller cams at B&H so I have 15 days to return it but thought you guys may have some experience with mixing the 2 formats (in Vegas 8) .
Thanks very much,
Randy

Personally, in VP8 I would stay with HDV unless you are going to use proxies or a DI. Support just started in VP9 and performance is still not so hot without Proxies or DI's for many .h264 files.

That said I have a handful of .h264 camcorders along with my HDV.

The TM700 can shoot 60i as well as 60p.... the 60p and hdv on the time line may get you into trouble but the 60i setting should be okay. 60p is also not in the Blu Ray spec.

HDV is 1440x1080 and the avc is 1920x1080 so you will have to make a choice as to which one you will go with as an end result.

The 700's full light quality is pretty outstanding... but its low light abilities can easily be beaten by the Sony cx500/550. There are also some complaints about fan noise being heard while using the internal mic on quieter parts of the video.

Thanks guys,
From what I've read I think I'll wait until next upgrade and just go all tapeless with 2 of the Canon XF models.
Thanks again,
Randy
