I did alot of DV capture with firewire, and it worked ok.I cant do HDV capture, because sony vegas does not detect my camcorder.I tried changing the capture device under preferences ,in pop up window after selecting capture,to firewire.I made sure the camcorder settings is on HDV output. Please let me know how can I handle this problem.

Some of the most common FireWire chipsets will not detect or capture HDV. My guess is that it is your FireWire interface rather than Vegas that is at fault.

Try HDVsplit. If that doesn't work either, it is likely your interface:

This has been an issue with windows 7 installing the wrong firewire driver.
go to the device manager and double click on lEE 1394 Bus Host Controller.
right click on 1394 OHCI Host Controller and update driver software.
browse my computer for software driver, let me pick from a list and
select 1394 OHCI Host Controller(legacy),
then click next and will install the new driver.
re-boot your computer and your done.

Try using the free program: hdvsplit.

All it does is capture HDV over Firewire.

Check whether your camcorder is recognised by windows. Your profile does not detail XP or Win 7. In W7 it shows up under 'Sound, video & game contrlollers'. If the device manager does not find your camcorder and you are using W7 switch to the legacy driver, then follow Steve's advice above.

Please fill in your 'specs' as it enables us to offer the correct guidance.

Sony Vegas Pro 9 had a problem with capture. Sometimes you have to keep clicking the device button until it connects as the tape plays.
