HDV capture crashing Vegas

Hi - trying to capture HDV from a z1 in Vegas 6b (latest build) & Vegas keeps crashing. I think it's the start stop points on the tape that are doing it - also my system is a measly 2.4 gig p4. I can only get about 10 minutes in before I get the "must close" box.

I have just reset render threads to 1 and ram to 16 - any other ideas?

thaks a bunch

Capturing to a second drive, yes? Got everything in the background killed, yes? DMA enabled? Stop Device on Loss of Focus disabled?
Might indeed be a bad spot on the t/c. Time code format set to non-drop? (shouldn't matter..but it shouldn't be crashing, either)

Have you successfully captured before? I've had no problems with my 3.2 P4 with V6 with my FX1 with several stop points.

Before my P4, I used CapDVHS (search board for details) on my dual P3 1ghz successfully, though no multiple clip creation.

Also consider the separate target drive as Spot pointed out, defragged.

Spot: I am amazed at the small size of my m2t captures. So much info in a relatively little disk space. Modern drives should not be an issue in capture, but boy is it important in direct editing!
