You will need VMS Platinum, not the plain version of VMS. This version can do M2T and Quicktime. For MXF you need Vegas Pro. However, I don't understand why you want that video recorder in the first place. You can just record in your camera, and then capture via Firewire directly to Vegas Platinum, without quality loss during capture.

Hi Eugenia,

Thanks for your quick response.

I am using a Sony FX1 camcorder which capture video in mini DV and the longest DV is only 83 min. I am videoing live events that last 2 to 3 hours so I can't effort to replace the DV tape. Are you suggesting to record directly to a laptop that is running Vegas Platinum live?

I am runnign VMS9 Platinum so I guess that will work with ,m2t and QuickTime HDV files.

There is a free program called Format Factory. I have it and it really is free. It quickly can convert video, audio and pictures to just about any format. With video you may not at 1st realize the full extent of the settings for conversion. Clicking on lines for different parameters will reveal an arrow. Click on that and a drop-down list will show from which you can choose different. The default settings may be fine for many though. When it converts the process is about the quickest I've seen. So you may be able to stick with what you have now.

PS: VMS HD Platinum 10 will not recognize mkv video files as even existing in your HD..maybe flv and swf too. I know this for a fact..I bought VMS 10 and found this out with a mkv file I wanted to edit with VMS. Puzzled and disappointed I stumbled upon Format Factory. FF also is a breeze to add subtitles from a file to a finished hard-subbed video...in any format you want.
