HDV OT: FX-1 vs. Z1

Is there going to be any difference in the quality of video between the FX-1and the Z1? They are going to obviously be using HDV so that should remain the same, but are the chips going to be the same?, or are the only differences going to be in the extra goodies that you get with the Z1?

PS, what does the Z1/FX-1 capture at? 4:1:1:, 4:2:0, or are we lucky enough to get 4:2:2?

HDV is 4:2:0

The differences in Hypergain and Hypergamma are HUGE! HyperGain alone gives you up to about 30dB worth of gain.
Audio control and inputs are much better too. Overall, you'll gain a lot, even though they use the same format. The chips are the same, but how they're accessed and processed are different.
Will you be atDV Expo? I'll be showing them there on the show floor and in my half-day intensive.

Probably not at either. Unless one of them would be at Minneapolis MN or somewhere close to that, seeing as how I live in Fargo, ND.
BTW, are you guys ever in Minneapolis MN for anything? I'd definately be interested, as would some others, I'm sure

OK, My curiosity is peaked. What are / where can I learn about: HyperGain, and HyperGamma.

BTW, My understanding (as limited as I am learning that it is) about gain is that it simply uses fewer or a combination of multiple receptors to produce the same number of pixels. Again, I don't have a clue if this is right.

So I was able to find out what HyperGain was (something to be used in less than Ideal shooting conditions) and I still don't know what HyperGamma is. I always thought that Gamma was more of a display thing than a recording thing, but if it's the same as on displays I will be far more exited about that then about HyperGain.


What got me really pumped was the black stretch, if I understood it right.

Yes I want to know about the gain thing too. Please explain with some detail how the hypergain.gamma of the Z1 gives better video than FX1 and in what circumstances is this used /of benefit?

Among other things, the camera has an algorithm that allows you to punch up in lower light without grain from the amplification, using suppression and other mojo to give a better image. Further, it can deal with blasted contrasts a lot more, and while it's a floating point and settling at least around +24dB of gain, rumor has it that it goes beyond 30dB of gain. Haven't tried that myself yet.
