HDV project properties question

I've discovered when rendering out my 1440x1080 timeline to divx or wmv that the finished video is not the correct aspect ratio (looks squished on the ends) - I'm using the standard VP8 presets for each format.

Does changing the project properties to 1920x1080 make any difference to the image quality of the footage when rendering out? I'm shooting with SONY HC7's.

I've found that both those codec's work better with square pixels.
Since it's a different codec/format I doubt that changing the horizontal resolution will make that much difference. It's sounds like the divx files your making are using square pixels if the video looks a little squeezed. So it's either 1440x810 or 1920x1080 for square pixels. If you change the divx from 1440x1080 to 1440x810 with square pixels the aspect ratio should be correct.
I calculated the 1440x810 as 16:9 aspect ratio which is (16 / 9 = 1.7777)
So (1440 / 1.7777 = 810)
Just like (1920 / 1.7777 = 1080)
That's why 1440x1080 = PAR 1.3333, to get the true square pixel from the bottom number 1080 it's 1440x1.3333=1920
I think it's easier to just use the standard HD framesizes 1280x720 or 1920x1080 which uses square pixels. You can play with the aspect ratios in the divx & wmv coder and also make them work.
