I am shopping for a new powerful pc that will bet me work with Vegas & hdv. I am considering a Sony Vaio VGC-RA834G available from J&R for $2050. Seems like a good deal to me. However, It comes with the Windows XP Media Center operating system.

I have read that many advise not using the Media Center o.s..
My question is: can the Media Center o.s. be removed & Windows XP Pro installed without comprising the system. I don't need the features the Media Center offers. The computer will be my main editing system.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Here are the specs of the Vaio VGC-RA834G,
Intel Pentium 4 Processor 560J (3.6 GHz)
1MB L2 Cache
800MHz FSB
1GB PC3200 400MHz DDR SDRAM
2 RAM Slots (1 available)
400GB (2 x 200GB) 7200RPM SATA HDD in a RAID 0 configuration
Double Layer DVD Writer - supports Double Layer DVD+R, DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW, & CD-R/RW media
DVD-ROM Drive
nVIDIA GeForce 6600 graphics card with 256MB of RAM
Giga Pocket MPEG2 Encoder/Decoder board with TV Tuner and Motion Reality Technology
Multimedia Card Reader

I have an ra820 3.2 Viao w/ XP MC and it works just fine with Vegas and all the plugs so far work fine.
I just disabled some of the extra stuff that starts up with windows.
