Be nice if you had my JVC DHDV Tape unit ($750.00) which I never use. (720P) Maybe you can still rent one. I believe Cineform was what I used to capture it.

Depending on your location, there are houses specializing in this kind of thing. In the Washington DC area, everyone uses Video Labs 301-217-0000.

If you are not near to them, you might still want to give them a call. They may be able to point you to a resource.

With most editors not having more than a single deck or camera on hand (at most), and so many formats still floating out there, Video Labs does a huge amount of work like this.

Thanks all, I managed to rent a sony HDV deck that could play them. Downside was it won't output the JVC HDV1 1280x720-30p over firewire.

It will only output it over analog as 1080-60i and I had to do an analog capture from component out but I got it and it looks OK.
