Starting to get occasional drop-outs, hoping it's just dirty heads. (VX2100) Would this be a "pop it in and play" thing or are we talking factory overhaul? It's been about 30-40 hours of use thus far. Recommendations?
Have you been using different tapes?
It mostly shouldn't cause an issue but best to stick to the one brand and type.
As the cameras is probably still under warranty if a quick clean doesn't fix it send it back, a rise in dropout rate could indicate a head / guide alignment problem. Are you playing the tapes back in the camera or in a deck?
If they play OK in the camera but you get more dropouts playing them in a deck it's more likely to be an alignment problem.
Bob.
Although they both work I would recommend a Sony Head Cleaning Tape if you are using mainly Sony Tapes or a Panasonic Head Cleaning Tape if you are using mainly Panasonic Tapes. Around 5-10 seconds should do it.
Good to know about the 5 - 10 seconds thing. I only use Sony tapes, however, now that I am fully awake and cognisant and it's not 3:AM anymore after a night of chasing models up and down a runway and interviewing them in a cluttered dressing room, I've had the opportunity to do a quick test: The camera plays the same tape back flawlessly but yes I'm capturing with a DSR - V10 deck, the history of which remains somewhat clouded in obscurity, and is thus highly suspect. It was used in one of those medium sized studios which went bankrupt due to an inability to keep up with changing technology... plus certain Vegas-using-shmos broadcasting quick paced reality type TV shows on the air right from their bedrooms.
I assume (if it's not an alignment problem) that the heads clean the same?
