Sony and Pioneer drives seem to be pretty popular around here. They both work well with DVD-A. Personally, I have an external Sony burner, and I've been very happy with it. I think most any burner should work pretty well with DVD-A. The compatibility issues that most people have complained about with on burners have more to do with the burning applications. Veritas software has a lot of known incompability issues with DVD-A. Also, some people have had problems with Nero as well. The bottom line is, try to have as few burning applications on your computer as possible to have the most success with DVD-A.
I'm using a Pioneer a0-5 4x DVD-R drive and it works very well. No compatibility problems, I can play DVD's made by it on Sony, Apex, Rowa, GE and all other not so fussy Consumer DVD players. Make sure you buy a drive that is supported by DVDA. If there isn't a driver for it in DVDA you're SOL
