HELP! "An error while creating a proxy file.."

Soniclight wrote on 3/27/2012, 7:36 PM

I use VP10e 64 bit. I created a posting on this back in December 2011, but no-one replied, so I'm trying again, and I'm using the Event shot from back then since it's already on my site's server and the same issue over and over.

This error happens seemingly at random about 50% of the time when I launch a .veg that has audio tracks. At first I thought it was because some codec thing with Windows Media Player (I like to listen to stuff while working) or browser or when I have Cubase open. Not so, this happens on fresh system boot with nothing open except maybe Windows Explorer directory, i.e. where my .veg files are. I even unplugged my DVD player/burner.

Result of this error: all peaks on all audio are not there = one can't see the waveforms, all events are white rectangles.
Nuisance.

So I close, relaunch Vegas and then it works, no error pop-up, I see my audio waveforms -- half of the time. This is getting frustrating and figured I'd run this by you folks again before I open an online ticket -- the last one took 45 days for a response.

Pardon the CAPS on "help" but in this case it's a polite emphasis replacement for some of the less polite words going through my head when this happens...

Thanks.

Do you use the Sony Media Manager?

Dave,

Thanks for response.

I thought it was required, so yes. In Services it's "SQL Server (SONY MEDIAMGR2") and right now its state is "Started" probably because I'm in Vegas as I'm writing this. And as you noticed in the screenshot above, it is that one that messes up.

But the most recent identical problem about an hour ago has the same message in Events:

"FileMgr::StartLogFiles: Operating system error 2(The system cannot find the file specified.) occurred while creating or opening file 'C:\Users\PSK\Documents\Sony Media Libraries\Default_log.LDF'. Diagnose and correct the operating system error, and retry the operation."

Listed right under that SQL in Services is stuff that seems related:

SQL Server Active Directory Helper (blank -- not started/Manual)
SQL Server Browser - Started

It's been so long that I installed Vegas on a virgin system, but doesn't it require Microsoft .Net Framework too? If so, here is the state of what I got right now in Services - none of which are started:

[b]Microsoft .Net Framework NGEN v2.0.50727_X64 - (Disabled)

As I recall, it is not good to remove older versions of .NET for some apps require the older ones, i.e. v.1 through 3. I'm assuming my Windows Update has mine current for I've seen .NET in my list of updates to install at some point.

I do not use the Sony Media manager. You might go to options within Vegas and disable it and see if the problem goes away. You can always reenable it.

What do I lose in the process? Does that mean I lose Project Media directory in Vegas? If so, I kind of need that... :(
Former user wrote on 3/27/2012, 10:34 PM
I have never used it so I don't know what features you might lose.

You will have your Project Media window which will show all media that you import.

Maybe someone else can chime it about the media manager's functions.

Thanks. Well, at least we're half-way towards a possible solution - yay!
I'll wait and see if some more Wize Ones show up to counsel me... :)

Well, Googlin' around, I ran into this page at Sony. It does not answer the "what would I lose..." question" but as is expected, suggests total reinstall and gives directories of where Media Manager creates it's data. I don't want to go through a whole reinstall yet, so I'll go see what I can clean up or disable.

ACID/Vegas Media Manager problems

OK, this is turning into a monologue..

While maybe not absolutely necessary, I did go and clean out the Windows 7 equivalent directories mentioned at the link in my post above. Then I disabled Media Manager in Vegas. Opened up my most recent hog of a .veg a couple of times and then some other ones at random.

.
Thanks, Dave (and Google :)

"Problem is fixed."
Well, ...

When I'm listening to some music with Windows Media Player, the player freaks out and stops playing when I launch Vegas with some error message, and I get the same thing again in Vegas. I shut Vegas down, relaunch, same thing. Then do it again, and it's OK. Must have something to do with Microsoft Windows Media Player and their codecs interfacing with Vegas since the latter is capable of encoding in .wav, .wma and .wmv.

No errors in Events/Application, System, Security or Hardware.

BUT... deleting the directories suggested by Sony removed my keyboard settings and all of my custom render templates -- so I had to redo those. AND... the problem came back once I brought back those, so there may be something in there, i.e. WM template screwing thing up even when Windows Media Player isn't operating.

I'll eventually figure this out or put in a ticket...
Soniclight wrote on 3/31/2012, 2:27 AM
I finally figured out the problem -- it is one of the custom templates in AppData\Roaming\Sony\Render Templates folder. I've removed all of the folders containing them in that directory that are organized by codec/platform type and will either test some by putting them back until I see the problem again or create new ones from scratch.

And.. this has been one of the most pathetic monlogues on this forum I've ever seen - lol.
But again, it may help someone down the road.
Making a fool of oneself is not always bad.

The issue came back, contacted SCS email support, still waiting after 2 months from when I contacted them for an actual solution.
