help ASAP capture minidvHD

I'm trying to capture a mini DV tape which is digital HD video (widescreen), but neither version 7 nor 8 are recognizing the widescreen image. The deck works fine (i've captured other material with it with no problem), but the connection seems off.
any advice?

oh also, when i click on video capture format (in version 8) and choose HDV, the capture window tells me the device is not available?

Is your deck (camera?) set to output HDV and not DV?

If it's a Sony camera you have the option to output as DV or HDV and if it's set to DV vegas will not see the camera as an HDV device.

Check your settings on your deck/camera.

Which deck are you using?

it is a sony deck
yep-the output is set for hdv

have you tried manually changing the PAR in Vegas at the clip level?

done by right clicking on the clip, going to "properites", then to the "media" tab, then to "Pixel Aspect Ratio:"

Might take care of the problem even though your capture isn't seeing the PAR right.

I'm pretty sure that will just stretch a non-widescreen capture, no?
