Help audio sync bad on DV tape, AVI perfect??

Blitz wrote on 5/17/2002, 8:24 PM
I've finally rendered a large project(1 hour long). The audio sync on the print to DV tape is BAD.

I used the (A) roll sound for all the audio as to keep it consistent. I then edited in head shots from the (B) roll and the sound sync is perfect on VF (I also checked the rendered AVI files on Windows Media Player they are perfect also).

When viewing the tape the sync on the (A) roll fotage starts out ok but starts to deteriorate all the way through to very bad at the end of the tape. All the edit (B) roll shots are worse than a badly dubbed Japanese monster movie.

Also there are a few very short blank spots on the audio track. I'm assuming that this is were VF is overcoming the Window 98 SE file size limit.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I understand that "AVI Good : DV Tape Bad", but which version of VF do you have? I use VF 2.0c Build 125? Is this the one you have? This is the latest which has addressed audio sync problems.....audio sync problems....audio sync problems

Hmmm.....

Okay, you've got VF 2.0 Build 69. I've downloaded and use the update, VF 2.0c build 125, copy and paste the link below into your browser [I can't seem to get an auto link sorted out!]:

http://www.sonicfoundry.com/download/step2.asp?DID=337

Read the bug fixes, on this site, one of which is the audio sync print to tape. Read the posts on 2.0c build 125 and see what people have said. It seems - like I had - you have an earlier build of the VF 2.0 series.

Hope this helps, give us all your feedback.

Over to you

Thanks

I've downloaded and installed up date. You I have to re-render or can I just print to tape?

I went a head and printed to tape without re-rendering (didn't want to wait the 14 plus hrs). The audio sync is now perfect but still has the annoying sound gaps.

Guess I'll render again and see what happens.

I have a 80 gig Maxtor 3000DV external it works great.

Thanks for the help. I'll post after the rendering to let you know if the sound gaps have improved.

Thanks

Blitz,

You're very welcome. Soooooo, how long did it take - Length of Video:Print-to-tape ration? 1:3 or 1:4 or what? I'm interested in what the audio gaps are, when you've investigated.

Aint it good when something works!
