Help! Broken DV Tape

It's a first for me. I popped in a tape recorded back in '06 and the tape broke.

After much figgiting, I finally got the tape out of the case. Only about 1 inch is mangled, but the case is destroyed. The cases are glued together and quite complicated.

Could I pull tape from a new cartridge, splice in the old tape, then roll it back in?

I know it'll get screwy, but I need to save what's usuable.

Any other ideas?????

Hey! It worked!

Not for the weak of heart or if you have "shakey hands" ... like i do!

But none the less, I spiced the damaged footage onto the front leader of a new tape, manually rolled it in and Bam ! It worked!

Another catasrophe averted!
