help docking the toolbar

I just noticed in the "Why Vegas Pro?" video (at 1:47) that the toolbar is sitting right over the timeline as opposed to being at the top under the menu bar. How have they managed to do it? I always wanted it that way but didn't think it was possible. I just can get it there. Played in the preferences under display and have tried different layouts but I just can't get the toolbar right over the timeline.

Any ideas?

If you have your Preferences (Display tab, uncheck "Display timeline at bottom...") set so that the timeline is at the top, then the toolbar will be above the timeline.

But the configuration shown in the video is not, as far as I know, possible. Unless maybe the super-secret preferences dialog (no, not kidding) can do it. Sorry, I've never really messed with it, so I don't know the key combo to bring it up.

Perhaps one could put the timeline at the top, shrink Vegas main window so that it fills only the lower half of the screen, then drag the dockable windows up to the top half of the screen.

That's what I thought, the way it is shown on the video seems impossible unless you do it Chienworks way but then under Vista, part of your desktop will be revealed through the top two bands (timeline and docking explorer...) which is a little annoying.

I always liked to have the tools right over the timeline, but with the new layout in V8, monitor on top and toolbar on top, I find it less praticle but then I just got used to have the monitor on top as opposed to bottom....
I also wish that you could center the toolbar with the timeline where you need it most.

Thanks,

As I mentioned, you can set it back to the old way of the timeline on top, docking areas on the bottom. Frankly, I don't know why Sony makes the "new way" the default.
