I remember seeing somewhere a veg file that depicted page turning as if a book's page was being turned. I have done a search for Book & Open but found nothing.
Can anyone please point me in the right direction.
I think you must mean the Page Peel but what I am looking for is where you apear to be looking don onto a book where you can see the front cover turn then each subsequent page and you can have a packground shown like a piece of silk that the book appears to rest on.
I am sure I have seen it in relation to V4 but can't remember where.
Yeah, I think I got it from the Sundance site but, you're right, I looked and it's not there anymore. As a matter of fact none of the "veg" files that I know were authored by Gary Gowman are there anymore. It could be he decided that he didn't want to give his work away anymore. (He certainly has that right)
Which does kind of raise an interesting question. I thought once you put something into the public domain you couldn't then claim copyright over it otherwise the whole process becomes unworkable.
He certainly might have the right to take it off a site BUT there's nothing to stop anyone else hosting it.
I don't want to take anything away from Gary as he has helped so many of us here including me personnaly so this is a general question.
If something is put in the public domain then is subsequently withdrawn does the author then have the right to refuse to allow you to use that work or even sue if it is found in your final product even if you can prove you downloaded it vefore it was withdrawn.
The reason I ask is because I remembered downloading the book.veg file a while back and did a dearch through my HDDs and found it.
In my case I don't really see it as a problem as it will onlybe seen by my parents and other close family and no fee is being taken.
The efffect is simple enough, depending on how realistic you want it to look. The biggest 'problem' would be having any text or image on the "pages" look real as the page is turned. The page 'peel' transition isn't really a page turn, its a peel that goes back at a angle and is also transparant.
Hints (required 30 still images):
The following minimal things need to be considered. The page size, the page shadow, on both the previous and next page, the movement of the turned page, the movement of the shadows as the page is turned.
Time wise it should take about a second. So you would need 30 frames each showing the page being turned at a slightly advanced position from the last. Then of course you could just loop it for the next page and so on. Each image frame would advance the turned page further left.
Assume a page numbered page "100", this is the page being turned. Page 99 is left, page 101 to the right.
It would begin with page 100 nearly covering page 101 completely. Each frame would advance page 100 left and its shadow on page 101 would advance left and shrink ane also move left as page 100 is 'turned' This is turn would increase the shadow on page 99 as page 100 moves towards the left until you end with page 100 totally blocking out page 99, page 100 becomes the page on left (replacing page 99)and a new page 102 on the right. It isn't as hard as it sounds, but would take awhile to get the effect right.
To find the COW veggies, go to creativecow.net, click on Sony Vegas, when that page opens, click on the Sony Vegas header at the top of the page. From there you can click on the veggies and scripts links. All of Gary's VEG files are there.
Not that anyone seems to care (see Scripting thread) but just becuase someone made something publically available does not mean they placed it in the public domain. Someone could post a script and then if you run that script sue you for copyright infringement. This is even true for works that are not marked copyright (at least in the US)...
That is one of the reasons I wish people would actually mark their scripts (or vegs) with some sort of explicit license verbage....
Yes I know everyone thinks it is fine and nothing will happen...everyone is mostly right..it is unlikely that this will happen.. but it is by no means impossible.
BillyBoy,
Do you read detective stories? No? Plots have been built on the fact that in any real book the opened page 101 is always on the right side and page 100 always on the left. So when the culprit says he found the vital piece of paper between page 101 and 102, the Sherlocks of the world knows that he's lying, because it is impossible.
Anyway - Maverick - if you have the book itself videoed (for real) you can impose text on it and by keyframing 3D LE and perhaps one of the deformation plugins, make the text look like it moves with the pages. Use a book with good, stiff paper, it'll make life easier for you.
Wow! TOO creative . . I just love this Forum! ! Great stuff lads . .and lassies [?] - And no, before you start jumping all over me, I know there is no such thing as being "TOO creative . . "
Well I don't know ... when I look closer I think that the combination of a real book video and the page peel transition (on the text) is better. You'd have to make the text a PIP.
Grazie,
How would I love to come to Wembley on the Videothingy? But I can't. However - I'll be in my daughter's choir's entourage when they do Evensong at Southwark Cathedral on Saturday, June 26. You're welcome, of course.

Woah! Yes of course I remember . . How long you in the UK for? . . . ANother lost evening on the SOuthbank calling you? ? ? Hmmm.... Or is this a quick stopover thingy . . . ?
Could you "twitch" my memory sometime closer Torsie? 26th of June . . ties knot in neck . . . arrggghhh . . . too tight!
It's one week, Grazie. We'll be staying in Bournemouth, coaching around to the cathedrals in Exeter, Wells and Winchester - plus Southwark of course. London will be a hit and run thing this time, I'm afraid. But more details later.

Hay Maverick, did you ever find your book? I made an animation of a book using 3ds max. It starts with the title page showing, though, and only simulates the next page being shown. If you use max, i'd be glad to email you the .max file.
I don't think I have anything that will display a max file.
What I hacve decided to do is start from scratch using the advice given so far. That way it will be my own work, I'll feel content at making myself and I can share the results with everyone here when complete:-)
