HELP Magic Bullet HD Looks Now Missing from VP8 :(

I called Red Giant about this before posting here and I'm also aware of some past discussions about RG essentially abandoning Vegas. - my issue is not a political one but a very nuts and bolts one that's basically destroying parts of many past projects.

But before I get to that, some context:

As mentioned in recent thread, my old Pentium D 2.8 Ghz XP 32-bit Home system's mobo died, so t'was time to rebuild a new system: a 6-core AMD X6 3.2. Ghz. Win7 64-bit Home one. I followed Johnmeyer's and other's advice and opted to install VP8c instead of 8.1 since it was Sony's first foray into 64-bit and hence more or less a beta class app.

I will be upgrading Vegas but I'm waiting for v.11 or whatever it will be called. I've already spent almost half of my entire savings on this computer-redo thing (yes, I'm a pauper).

To my dismay for some reason the install of Magic Bullet HD Looks as it always was -- as bundled with Vegas requiring no separate install -- is now totally absent upon install of VP8. My introduction to Vegas was v.6 and it also included Magic Bullet HD Looks.

And, no, I can't fire up my old XP OS and work on that version of 8.c due to said hardware crash.
It's fried. New system and old OS are incompatible (blue screen no-go...)

.

The rep at Red Giant was quite pleasant and was really trying to help and it seemed that perhaps they could send me something to fix this. But in the end this is what I got in the promised follow up email -- a non-solution:

________________

Hello Philip,
________________

Well, Magic Bullet Quick Looks is NOT compatible with Vegas except as a Mac version.
And so here are my (probably desperado-attempt) questions to try to find a solution...

--- Does anyone have a workaround -- including some kind of hack* to reconstitute my VP8 install to include this plugi?

--- And/or could/would Sony Tech support be able to help me with this -- realistically?

Your input, advice, solutions most appreciated.

~ Philip

I'm not sure that I can solve your problem, and I only go back to version 7 currently installed on my PC (removed 3, 4, 5, and 6). But, if MB was installed with an earlier version and that version no longer exists on your computer, MB probably won't show up. I'm not where I can look right now, but I'm almost certain that whatever version of Vegas came with MB, there was a seperate disc or download site to get it. I think you're right that it was version 6 and I believe Boris Graffiti came with it also. I'm pretty sure I made a disc with MB on it so if I ever got into a situation like you. Is it possible you did the same? Since you no longer have the earlier versions and did a clean install of 8, I wouldn't expect MB to show up.

EDIT - just checked and it was Vegas 5 that came with MB and I'm pretty sure it was a D/L.

Thanks for reply--we may perhaps be moving towards a solution. I know I checked my VP8 install disk under Additional Software when I was on the phone with RG and found no MB.

BUT
I'm looking at my v.6 disk and just as with you in v.5, there it is.
I bought my VP8 as an upgrade to 6 yet it did install on my new system without having to refer back to or verify my status via 6.

So...

Maybe the solution is to uninstall everything again, install 6, then 8, then 8.c.
I'd rather wait for some feedback/confirmation that this would work before doing (another) re-install of VP8.

If MB was on disc 5, you should be able to install just MB and not have a problem. Use the explore feature for the disc and see if it's not a separate .exe file or, on the splash screen for the 5 install there may be a choice to install "additional" software.

Thanks, Kent. I may try to install MB from the v.6 disk before uninstalling v.8 for it should lodge itself into a non-VP8 system folder. In case it doesn't work, I'll just do the whole chain again -- v.6 + MB > v.8. That way it should show up in v.8. I hope.

If you go down to DVDA 3 updates on the link below, there is a version of MB Movie Looks HD you can download. Quite why it is lumped with DVDA updates, I don't know. I do know it works.

OK, SOLVED :o)

While the version on my v.6 disk is probably identical, I did download and installed the one at Sony and I checked a project incl. MB and it's all back to normal again.

Phew....
For once a simple solution in life.

My thanks to Ken for pointing the way.
