I called Red Giant about this before posting here and I'm also aware of some past discussions about RG essentially abandoning Vegas. - my issue is not a political one but a very nuts and bolts one that's basically destroying parts of many past projects.
But before I get to that, some context:
As mentioned in recent thread, my old Pentium D 2.8 Ghz XP 32-bit Home system's mobo died, so t'was time to rebuild a new system: a 6-core AMD X6 3.2. Ghz. Win7 64-bit Home one. I followed Johnmeyer's and other's advice and opted to install VP8c instead of 8.1 since it was Sony's first foray into 64-bit and hence more or less a beta class app.
I will be upgrading Vegas but I'm waiting for v.11 or whatever it will be called. I've already spent almost half of my entire savings on this computer-redo thing (yes, I'm a pauper).
To my dismay for some reason the install of Magic Bullet HD Looks as it always was -- as bundled with Vegas requiring no separate install -- is now totally absent upon install of VP8. My introduction to Vegas was v.6 and it also included Magic Bullet HD Looks.
And, no, I can't fire up my old XP OS and work on that version of 8.c due to said hardware crash.
It's fried. New system and old OS are incompatible (blue screen no-go...)
.
The rep at Red Giant was quite pleasant and was really trying to help and it seemed that perhaps they could send me something to fix this. But in the end this is what I got in the promised follow up email -- a non-solution:

Hello Philip,

Well, Magic Bullet Quick Looks is NOT compatible with Vegas except as a Mac version.
And so here are my (probably desperado-attempt) questions to try to find a solution...
--- Does anyone have a workaround -- including some kind of hack* to reconstitute my VP8 install to include this plugi?
--- And/or could/would Sony Tech support be able to help me with this -- realistically?
Your input, advice, solutions most appreciated.
