Help me find my center channel.

I am making a simple slideshow and having the hardest time figuring out how to take my 2 channel stereo music file and making it into a 5.1 ac3 file. I select 5.1 in the properties menu, then drop my stereo file onto an audio track. No matter what I do, I can't seem to get a signal on the center or rear channels. What do I need to do? I have clicked and right-clicked everything I could think of, but nothing seems to allow me to mix my stereo file in 5.1.

Thank you for any help.

*edit*
I turned up the juice on the audio bus and now I have rear channels, but still no center channel.

Double click on the surround panner next to the track. Move the "Center" fader to the right. It defaults to a setting of "-inf." I had this same problem when I tried doing a surround mix and wondered why I hadn't seen any signal for the center channel although it was panned to the center.
