Help me fix Sound Forge

(I can't make heads or tails of all the identical looking forums with their own login for different apps in the Vegas Pro Suite, so I'm just asking here in off-topic.)

Sound Forge is unusable since on every launch it re-scans all VST's. I run a recording studio, and have thousands of VST plugins. It scans forever, and then crashes Sound Forge on some Softube plugins.

Since Sound Forge isn't operatable while it's doing these scans, there's no way to get into the preferences and remove the VST directories from the list.

As I mentioned in another Post, Vegas does this too, but I got lucky one time and was able to get into the preferences and remove the VST plugin folders. No such luck with Sound Forge. Strangely, the first time I used Soud Forge it looked like it completed the scan after 40 minutes or so, and worked normally that one time. Ideally I'd like to have my VST's available in an audio program, so it didn't occur to me to remove the VST folders in preferences while I could, but at this point I just want to remove the VST folders from the scan.

Is there a preferences file somewhere I can edit as text?

Thanks!

Whilst SoundForge is still bundled with Vegas Pro Suite it's not actually part of the Vegas family. It falls under Magix's audio section so you need to go to the Magix Community Forum here https://www.magix.info/us/audio-forum/

Is there something that you want to do with SoundForge that you can't with VEGAS?

While it is very possible that the forum locations Sound Forge and Acid will eventually be moved to the Vegas forum, right now they are still on magix.info. (However, Sound Forge and Acid are now available for sale on vegascreativesoftware.com.) Our IT team is working on other important infrastructure changes at the moment, so reorganization of the forums is not something that is of high priority right now.

In case any fellow Vegas Suite users run into the problem I did, here's the solution:

make a shortcut for the sound forge executable. Open the properties of the shortcut, and in the "target" field, append /NOVSTGROVEL. So this is what the last bit will look like: '...Forge18.exe" /NOVSTGROVEL'

Then run the shortcut.

That will let you get into sound forge, where you can remove VST scan folders. I recommend copying any VST's you actually want to use in soundforge/vegas/acid into their own subfolder, and only add that one folder to the scan list in all 3 programs. And keep it to just a few key plugins, such as the plugins included with the Vegas Suite, plus a few others that cover any missing needs.
