Help. Need 9.0a bug confirmation on text graphics

xberk wrote on 7/27/2009, 11:20 AM
I submitted a report to SCS on the bug that I and several others have found where all your text graphics revert to their original preset values. SCS says "this is not a common issue and will need to be reported to our engineering staff." It would help Sony to get a quick fix if more of us can confirm how to reproduce the bug. Can anyone else reproduce the bug as follows:

Create new project in 9.0a. Add text graphics. I added several ProType graphic and several regular text graphics and changed the text on each of them. Saved the project. REOPENED the project. Copied a text graphic. Did Paste. Did undo. All text reverted to orig presets in all text graphics on timeline. It seems video track not needed. Problem shows up with just graphics on timeline.

Is anyone else seeing this and able to reproduce?

Paul,
I can partially reproduce this. Went through below described tests and could only partially reproduce. Behaviour is far from consistent.

I put two text events on timeline:
1. my own saved text preset,
2. SONY supplied Sample text on trans bg.
Saved and reopened project.

Results:
Using my preset:
1. Copy/paste/create new/undo - both revert
2. Right button+drag/create new - both revert
3. Copy/paste/create ref/undo - SONY only reverts
4. Right button+drag/create ref - SONY only reverts

Using SONY text
1. Copy/paste/create new/undo - my preset reverts
2. Right button+drag/create new - my preset reverts
3. Copy/paste/create ref/undo - SONY only reverts
4. Right button+drag/create ref - SONY only reverts

HTH,
Tom

I have had this same problem. Tried to repeat it, but can't figure out what happens exactly. Although, it has happened I think when I do control Z especially after changing something in a text box. I think. It has happened A LOT! So it is definitely a bug that needs some attention.

Thanks Tom -- I think I'm seeing text revert no matter what kind. Sony preset or my own saved preset - create new or create ref --

Anyone else seeing text revert to preset value? I put a report into SCS so they are aware of this one.

Using 9.0a
1. Create new project in 9.0a.
2. Add text graphics.
3. Change the text graphics.
4. Save the project.
5. REOPEN the project.
6. Copy a text graphic either as create new or create reference
7. Paste it somewhere on timeline
8. Do Undo ------ Do all text graphics revert to orig values?

i had this problem occur on the weekend when i re-opened a project and found the text i'd created had returned to the original Sample Text state.

I had this problem too after updating to 9.0a. I haven't seen the problem again since going back to 9.0.

I tried experimenting a bit but was unable to pinpoint exactly what triggered the effect. I was more concerned at the time with rescuing my project.

It happened after I moved some clips around. The text subtitles reverted to preset values only to the left of the edits on the timeline.

After saving my "restored" project under 9.0a, I exited Vegas, reloaded the project and I got an error message:

"Warning: An error occurred while loading file xxxxx.veg. The reason for the error could not be determined. "

Under details I got many lines saying:
"This project file is missing one or more project media list elements."

I restored again using version 9.0 and all was well.

Just reopened a project I was doing last night. Basically a lower third using the Pro Titler text. Followed your steps. Copied the Text Event. Pasted then Undo.
Yep, Text box reverted all settings to default including event length, which I had changed to :30 from :10. Closed project (did not save changes). Reopened and everything was correct again.
So I Tried it a second time with even more problems:
1. Copied a Generated Media Solid Color, Paste, Undo. No problems.
2. Copied Pro Titler text event, Paste, Undo. - original text event mainted and DID NOT revert BUT:
3. Generated Media (NOT the one I had recently tried the Copy/Paste/Undo with BUT a different one on the timeline) no longer showed up during Preview/Playback but event still looked proper on timeline.
4. Attempted to Edit Generated Media and BOOM!

Vegas has stopped working with Error Report Send request dialog box appears. I filled out the report stating these same steps and sent.

Vegas 9.0a 32-bit on WinXP - Core 2 Duo with 2GB RAM.

Thanks for the heads up regarding the problem. Hopefully with enough feedback Sony can address this and the Rotating Graphics causes image to Blur out problem that has also been brought recently on the forum.

I have the same issue. I thought Iwas loosing my mind. LoL Now I will have to reload V9 to get rid of the problem. I hope.

I forgot to mention I lost a few hours of graphics because of this.

I just had this happen to me also.

Once I settle on a Font/Style/Size/etc... I copy/paste my Generated Text creating a NEW Generated Text Event, then change the new Text to suite. (this way my project stays consistent)

Just now when I copy/pasted 2 Generated Text Events at the same time I noticed that they said 'Sample Text'. As I scrolled through my project I noticed several that also said 'Sample Text'. I opened my VEG .bak and all was well except for the last 20minutes of work. The .bak was 20minutes older than the .veg)

Very frustrating to have to redo 20minutes of your edits because of something like this.
I can only imagine if I would have had to recreate all of my Text because of this.

Sony only thinks it's isolated because they can't reproduce it, but believe us... the bug is here and it Bites Hard!

Not any more they don't.
Official now. Serious bug in 9.0a. Take care.

well obviously even 9.0a wasn't even beta tested, why would a point release be beta tested?

If I copy and paste media generated TEXT, into 9a then save the project and reopen all the copied generated media has gone
PaulJG wrote on 7/29/2009, 2:58 PM
Help with copying. As my project was very large and I don't go back to check each event. That would add days to the project time. I saved many times.

When I nothiced my "media generated" additions were missing, much work had be done.

Now when I go back to a day ago to copy and paste the text to the latest saved it won't paste.

So I guess my question is, " how do I copy and paste from a project a few days ago to the latest?" It use to do that, but now it won't.

I am on a deadline and this is killing me. 9.a is a mess. This is a serious problem. I was going to go back to 9 but the download is not there.

Absolutely happening here. Back to 8.0c. At least that has been rock solid for me since the upgrade to Vista 64 and 8 GB of RAM.

I'm sure Sony is aware of the problem and working to fix it, but it is a bit frustrating...

9.0b or 9.0c will be wonderful software...

You can find the V.9.0 download here.

When I make a change to the text and say undo... nothing happens to the text but the undo button is now not optional. I can say redo nothing happens, undo nothing happens.
No good.
