help needed to import QT HD prores file

Hello
I've been given a HD QT mov file almost 6gb in size that I can't import into Vegas Pro 8.3.

The studio that gave me the file advised I need the prores 422 codec.

After checking the apple web site - I already have this codec as part of quicktime pro 7.5.5 installed.
Quicktime won't play this file either.

Does anyone have any suggestions how I can import this file?
Thank you for your assistance.
Paige.

I'm new at working with the HD QT files, but I just ran into the same situation. I was unable to import HD QT files imported from an EX-1, imported into FCP and forwarded to me. I ended up having to ask the person to re-render them... he rendered them into ProRes mov's at the highest resolution, but it must have been with a different codec, because they work fine. All ProRes mov files are not the same, and all don't work in Vegas.

Have you tried downloading the separate Windows ProRes codec from Apple's web site?

If you can't find it, search here for past posts with a link.

It's a bad sign that your QT Pro can't read it, but it may be fixed with the separate codec.

Thanks both for your quick responses!

I did search this forum and found the link for the windows 422 codec - but when I went to run the app I was notified that I already had a more current version of the codec as part of my QT 7.7.5

If the file didn't come from a production studio I would be doubting the validity of the file. They are hesitating on sending to me in another format as they don't want the quality of the footage to be reduced. (It's HD 1920x1080)

Any more suggestions would be appreciated
