Help!! Now I need to author a dvd

Ok...I've captured, edited, and rendered 5 different videos to mpeg2 with VV. I purchased and installed a Cendyne DVD-R drive...when I try to use the software that came with the drive (Sonic MyDVD) to author and burn, I get incomplete results. I'd like to put all 5 mpegs on the DVD (they're fairly short) and set up a title page to select from. Any suggestions?

Try DVD Complete, written by DVDCre8 and marketed by Dazzle (www.dazzle.com). I've been using it quite successfully with my VV3.0c stuff. $99, and you get full motion menus and backgrounds plus chapter points.

just went to the Ulead site...they say they don't offer trial version yet. Hmmmm. This MyDVD is a piece of #*%@!! Can't get it to do anything I want. I've got to get these videos out before Christmas!

bcbarnes and editor3333....are you rendering your avi files to mpeg2 from VV and does DVD Complete "transcode" the mpegs or is it happy with the mpeg output from VV?

You're right; the new version of Ulead's DVD MovieFactory is not yet available for download. Another option is the big brother, Ulead's DVD Workshop. It's a 41MB download, though, and it might take a while getting familiar with it.

Pinnacle makes a simple DVD authoring program called Expression. You can also get a simple authoring solution bundled in with a pretty good NLE in Pinnacle's Studio8. The Studio8 package sells at Fry's for anywhere from $10-$100 depending on the deal at the time.

I generally render out of VV3 as elementary streams, using the NTSC DVD template provided. The result is a .m2v for the video and a .mpa for the audio. DVD Complete is very happy with this, and uses them as is (although it defaults to looking for a .mp2 extension for the audio, and you have to point it at the proper .mpa). If you render out as a straight system .mpg file, then DVD Complete will split the file into audio and video elementary streams, but it won't transcode.

If you still want to get MYDVD 4.0 to work, this is what you have to do.
1. Do not split the MPEG2 into separate video and audio streams. It won't take it.
2. Set the bit rate to somewhere around 7.3 megs VBR or CBR in Vegas MPEG2 codec
options. MYDVD will re-encode anything 8.0 and above. MYDVD does not include
the audio stream in the 8.0 meg setting. If you are hitting it with 44.1 kc
audio it will re-encode the audio to 48 kc and throw it on top of the
8.0 meg setting
and then re-encode the MPEG2 video stream and give you the "jerky" video.
You must allow for the audio stream bit rate to keep you under the 8.0 meg
setting. If you double encode the files get very large on the disc.
To keep MYDVD 4.0 from re-encoding the Video MPEG2 you must set the bitrate
well under 8.0 megs to allow for the audio stream. Don't ask me why they
did this but you can take it to the bank. If you keep the bitrate below
8.0 megs the software works very well.

Sorry about that. I use Reel DVD myself and I did a lot of fighting with
MYDVD in the beginning and junked it. But my buddies tell me it works great
if you know the combination to unlock it.

I use MyDVD 3 and MtDVD 4 with straight mpeg-2 files from VV. Never a problem. All DVD's burn without a problem. I've also used Ulead's products and they, too, work find. Always had crashes with DVD Complete (once you get a working serial number. Reading the Dazzle support boards is a real eye opened.)

Maybe the problem is the DVD drive or the media. Most everyone in my area use the Pioneer A04 and A05 drives. Never heard of anyone using a Cendyne drive. MyDVD comes with the Pioneer drives. In all uses, MyDVD has been stable and always woorked. What DVDs are you using? Are they thr correct ones? There is a difference between the PLUS and MINUS dvd's and they are not compatible.

It might help if you gave more details about what your problem is so someone can help you. As DVDs abd video is processor heavy, be sure you're doing nothing else while burning the DVD. If you have been doing other things, then you can interrupt the DVD process too long and then get another coaster.
