Help on setting up 5.1 speakers

I have just bought some logitech Z680 (bloody good) to go with my SB audigy 1 ex. I have set up the audio device tab a set creative asio. Set the speakers to front left/right ect, but play back is only happening through stereo. I am using an optical lead from my ex box. 5.1 works from power dvd( but you had to set that up). I have use the ang direct connection (3 leads) and that works ok in vegas but not using the optical lead, has anyone got any ideas,

I'm sure someone else will confirm but I don't believe Vegas will work using the digital out, you need to use the three connections.

You can't, unless you have an AC3-encoding capable device, like that nVidia mobo. This was my most expensive mistake: All soundcards can output a ready-encoded AC3 stream, but few can actually encode them. Read CAREFULLY on the box, you'll see it says "AC3 capability" but if it never states "ENcoding" you won't get what you're after. Another trick to lure consumers into buying stuff they don't need.

I currently run analog outputs on my M-audio Delta 410 while waiting for a good AC3 encoding soundcard w. ASIO support to hit the streets.

I build these systems!! you need a "good " sound card /with at least 6 outputs i use the motu there are cheaper ones then just asign each out per say front left and right to 1 and 2 then rear L and R to 3 and 4 and center and lfe to 5 and 6 and plug into amps or good cheap way is if you have a hometheater reciever with 5.1 inputs go with that and buy some very good speakers or if you run powered monitors you are there!!/ but get good speakers!!!!! stay away from those computer 5.1 systems!!!! they are far from acurate I would never mix on those! good luck rmj of rmjdesigns!
