Help Please! Setup extenal monitor issue

Hello everyone,
Although I am not new to reading this forum, I am new to using a forum so please bear with me. I have been using VV5 and now V6 to edit and render to Mpeg2 for DVD. Its mostly personal Stuff. I only do DVD projects so I won't be using any VHS or print to tape stuff. I have also read a few articles on how to roughly calibrate an external TV using some blue gels. I now have a canopus ADVC100 which I would like to use for external preview. My questions are as follows.

1. Do I set the ADVC100 to output a 7.5 IRE setup signal and calibrate my TV to that setting on the ADVC using the color bars?

2. or do I set up the ADVC at 0 IRE and calibrate my TV to that, and add a broadcast filter to the final output?

or as I think the case may be, am I too stupid to realize how to edit with external monitor set correctly.

I currently have the ADVC set to 7.5IRE setup and have calibrated my TV to that using the bars in media generator, but the output of the video from my VX2000 looks very bright. When I switch to 0 IRE without recalibrating (the TV still calibrated at 7.5IRE from ADVC) it looks much better. All my stuff is hit and miss. Sometimes DVDs look good sometimes bad.
Any and all help would be appreciated.

If you're not new to this forum you know I'm walking on my tip toes trying to avoid another heated thread on this topic.

In my opinion the broadcast filter is a legacy filter replaced by the scopes which when used with Color Corrector will give you superior results. All the broadcast filter did was clip levels. That is only important if you video will be broadcast, otherwise a none issue.

The IRE issue isn't going away. If you spend some time on Goggle, you'll see plenty of information, much of conflicting. Worse, some DVD players will do their own thing with IRE levels and obviously can distort things. The real kicker is an article I read sometime back that tested a wide range of DVD players form those cost $50 to $5,000 with some ultra high end test equipment concluded that there were few players regardless of price that hit to IDE 100 mark for white, some being as high as 108, which of course will further mess things up. In other words what does it matter if you set blacks to IDE 0 or 7.5 if your whites can be off as much as 10%?

If your projects end up hit or miss, that suggests you're not using an external monitor via firewire or it isn't calibrated correctly.

I'm pretty sure you need to set the ADVC100 setup to "off". Then do the calibration.

Normally, I don't think you'd need to add setup, even in the broadcast filter.
