John, I hope you're not referring to me adding "hep me, hep me, please" to my post. Nobody was replying and someone in another thread suggested it would be appropriate after the subject matter. I don't ordinarily do this but as I mentioned in my post, I'm dealing with a new client and have a tomorrow deadline. If you still think I shouldn't have changed my header......THEN YOU CAN'T BE MY FRIEND ANYMORE !.... (sorry, my kids use this rebuttle all the time and it seems to work for them : )
Randy
The problem with people putting things like HELP!!! or URGENT in the title is soon everyone starts doing it. Sort of like bumping ahead in some line. Nobody's question is more important than the next guy's and lets be realistic, we're talking editing videos, not life and death or some medical emergency where you need immediate help. Also those adding 'bump' are guility of trying to get more notice than their question probably deserves as well. If it didn't get many responses or any, it is more likely because the question was recently answered or you didn't frame it very well.
The number of responses you get should be relative to how well you frame the question and to what extent it is of interest to everyone else.
I for one RARELY respond to posts with HELP or Urgent or any such wording any faster and in fact may not respond at all because of it. Lets not turn the forum into a bunch of fourth graders all waving their hands at once for attention. This forum is better than that. Used to be anyway.
This response in not aimed at anyone. Just thought someone should say what probably a lot are thinking.
Its just my sense of humor and/or the "pink" pills. I wasn't directing it at anyone Randy. I was trying to help someone in a post with a title like this one and a poster replied:
"People, Please stop naming the subject HELP OR I'LL DIE, URGENT, etc. Name it so we know what we are opening. We will be able to help you better and it will help for searching in the future. Some of us don't have time to read every single post and it is very frustrating. Thank You. I'm done bitching now. . "
So I figured I would post this for fun.
Let's face it people get frustrated with software. That's why I have to laugh at those who go around the internet bragging about how programs like Vegas are "intuitive". "Intuitive" means you can learn it right before you have to use it for something important. Fat chance. It takes a long time to learn all the little things which don't appear to be right there before your eyes or the little things which don't really make sense. Microsoft Word is a classic example of that. Why shouldn't the cursor move one space at a time when you use the arrow keys instaed of jumping all over the place?
So when people get frustrated it is understandable. When they get an attitude as you are trying to help them, that's another story; but that's rare.
I think intuitive means install the software and start using it without needing to look at the manual or even the help menu because the interface is logical, uncluttered and straight forward. No fancy 3d buttons to push, no meaningless glitter or wasted effort to make it look pretty just for it to look pretty. Vegas is good because it doesn't get in your way. It lets you do your thing your way. No, you can't master Vegas overnight, but you can get a good start by just dragging a video to the timeline and get to it. Such software is rare. Of course some people have an instinctive feel for software, others don't. Nobody is good at everything. ;-)

I agree with that statement as well. My only real points were:
1. I don't blame people for getting frustrated with programs like Vegas or any other program.
2. If it is intuitive to one person and not to another they should:
A. Not ridicule those who have a problem with it.
B. Not recommend it to everyone who inquires by saying that it is "so
intuitive".
What is so intuitive about the following?:
-I tried to insert video with several tracks above and below each other, but I neglected to first split the event making sure they are all split at the same spot and everything shifted and rippled all over the place. Thank God Vegas has an intuitive Undo button so that I can intuitively undo the mess.
-I wanted to an edit or new scene after the last frame of the existing but I forgot to zoom in all the way and ended up with an overlap the first time I tried it and a black frame the second time. Then I kept getting the default transition because I neglected to turn off auto transition.
-It's dropping frames? Oh LOL! Did you.......defrag, check for IRQ conflicts, enable DMA, make sure that you had a 7200 RPM drive on a separate drive map from your OS and programs, made sure that you are NOT using a VIA chipset, disabled "Enable Device Control", checked to make sure that it says Microsoft DV and Camera in the video options, have compatible RAM, made sure the buffer size is sufficient, disabled Virus Protection, disable write caching on the drives, are NOT using a Digital 8 camera with scene detection enabled, and have the latest bios??? You did all that? Oh then uninstall Vegas, reboot, defragment again, and re-install it. If that doesn't work try using Video Capture 3.0. If that doesn't work it you are probably just an unintuitive type.
-Tried to use In/Out points to edit. I played from the timeline, tapped "I" to set in point, waited a moment and then tapped "O" for out point, then tapped "R" and then "Return" to make an unnamed region on the fly. Now I tapped "I" again. The IN point wasn't placed at the cursor location but was placed somewhere else. I went to Prefs/Editing and select "Collapse Loop Region..." but now I can't use the I/O keys to set I/O points. It automatically collapsed the loop regions. I realize it's my own unintuitive fault.
