This question has probably been asked before... I did a quick search and found a similar thread regarding using Vegas for this but it didn't quite answer my question.
I have a DVD that was made for me (I paid a service to transfer some old 8mm films to DVD) and I'd like to be able to bring the individual VOB files into either Pinnacle Studio 8 or preferably Sony Screenblast Movie Studio (the better of my two editing programs!), do a little editing and then author my own DVD with proper menu selections, etc. The company that made the DVD tells me that the VOB files I'm finding on it are actually mp2 files and that I could try copying them to my hard drive and then just changing the extension from VOB to MPG or MP2. I did that, and now I can access the files on my computer but not quite right. They play in Windows Media Player and my editing programs can now see them but they hang up, AND clips that are roughly 3 minutes long show up and play as being a fraction of that length. Weird.
Is there a better/proper way to convert VOB files to AVI or MPG (or is this a codec issue that could be rectified with a download)? My DVD player does not have a 1394 "out" so I can't just capture the playable DVD footage. It does have an S-Video "out" so I could capture that way but it seems like I'll lose some clarity! I wanted to keep it digital. BTW, there is no sound on the DVD so audio isn't an issue.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. I had wanted to put this together as a Xmas gift for an aging relative that really wants to see her old home movies after 40+ years! :-)
Thanks!!
