Help putting text over video (newbee)

I'm only into Vegas Video for about about month, having received it for Christmas. I need some help on something I'm not grasping. Give me a break, guys, I'm an old voiceover guy and this is new to me. :)

I have video in Track 1. (Track 2 is my audio). On Track 3 I have Text Media that I want to "Chyron" over my video, with a drop shadow. I want it to fade up, hold for 5 seconds, and fade down. This is a title to my video.

Can someone walk me through the process, or at least point me towards some reference material on a website, or FAQ? It must be easy, but I'm overlooking something that's hosing me.

Your text media needs to be on your Track 1, then Video (Track 2), Audio (Track 3) and so forth.... Text always on top of the video clip (in this case)

You can left-click the mouse at either edge of the title and lengthen it to what you want.. then left-click towards the top (you'll see a quarter moon icon) when you're there, an opacity window will open up.. on the right side of the text, drag left and on the left side, drag right. You'll get a fade length in seconds and frames...

Hope that works..

Couple of other things.. you can drag your text track up to the top by clicking in the track properties box on the left side and dragging it upwards...

For a drop shadow...open up the text box and move to the Effects tab.. there you can set your drop shadow, outline etc....

Thanks for the tips, and thank you Cheno for the advice. It got me straightened around. I hope I can be of help.

BTW, on a Windows2000 platform, what's the best, and least costly way to add fonts? Are those Font disks that they have at Office Max any good?
