Ive just imported some video clips into Vegas taken on my canon digital camera, when i play the files back with media player they are fine, but when i play them back on the Vegas timeline there is a watermark for " PICvideo M-JPEG3 " plus along the bottom theres a watermark for "www.pegasusimaging.com"

The wierd thing is i have NEVER downloaded any codecs from pegasus and i havent even installed any of the software from the CD that came with the canon camera!

how can i remove this codec and use a free codec ??

cheers

Have you had Pinnacle software on this computer?

To remove go to MY COMPUTER>PROPERTIES>DEVICE MANAGER>HARDWARE>SOUND,Video,Game CONTROLLERS>VIDEO CODECS>PROPERTIES.

You can remove codecs here.

Before you remove it make sure that a free codec exists. I don’t believe there is a free MJPEG codec. If you want one you have to buy one. Perhaps you SHOULD install the software from your Cannon camera. Chances are there is a licensed codec in there.

Cheers for the help, it wouldnt allow me to remove it, kept re apearing on boot up, however i can disable the use of using it and that worked and the video shows fine in the timeline with no watermarks so i guess i have another installed that works free of charge!!
cheers again

For what it's worth, VirtualDub has a built-in MJPEG decoder. You could use it to transcode your MJPEG footage to something Vegas can understand. If nothing else, uncompressed, or perhaps something like HUFFYUV.

I often use the free ffdshow codec to decode mjpeg from my canon digital camera. it works well, and is well supported. I now have 4 family members using the codec with either Vegas or Vegas Movie Studio. We downloaded the CODEC from Free-Codecs.com
