HELP! Render 1) for large LCD 2) Commercial TV ?

1 - We want to render for inhouse playback on both small (15 inch) and large (24 inch to 38 inch) LCD monitors... probably in WMV format so it will play on Windows Media Player.

2 - Render for playback on commercial Television... probably render back to mini-DV tape.

We are using Vegas 5.

All the "Render As" Templates seem to be provided in bandwidth speed for downloading or the net.

Question1 - How can we control the final size in pixels (or whatever) of the video... so we can control how big it will be on an internal LCD monitor ?

Question 2 - How do we control the quality of the render? Which paramaters do we work with and where do we click to find them?

Question 3 - How do we render for commercial TV... I'm guessing we will render back to mini-DV tape... but I guess I overlooked "render to tape" on the Render screen... maybe someone would be kind enought to point out where that option is.

Till now our projects have mainly been for the net and one of the standard Vegas Templates have seemed to work fine.

Thanks for any help on these other rendering choices.

Q1: You want to match the aspect ratio more than anything else.
When you start the project you can select then.

Q2: HD or SD?

Q3: Not sure what you mean by "commercial tv". We use HD tv sets that are
for either hotels or hospitals. The streaming card encodes it for
HD copy protection encryption but you need what is called a
"Transport Stream" that Vegas does not encode for.

For local stations, contact them. Most like Digibeta and some now
XDCAM. Please give more details.

Thanks for the reply... I'll take the 3 questions & your answers one at a time... and thanks for any additional help from you or anyone !

(We are doing standard definition now... not HD)

Question1 - How can we control the final size in pixels (or whatever) of the video... so we can control how big it will be on an internal LCD monitor ?

Here I want to find the "click sequence" to get to where I can key in the size and quality of the rendered output... like pixels wide by the pixels high... like640 x 480 or 800x600 or whatever... and what ever it takes to render various qualities of rendered output.

Maybe I should just take the max bandwidth template and assume that is the best quality Vegas can render ???

Question 2 - How do we control the quality of the render? Which paramaters do we work with and where do we click to find them?

I may just need to poke around the render options more on this as we have normally just used one of the standard templates... but maybe someone could share the "click sequence" to get to the various controls for rendering different video sizes and qualities.

Question 3 - How do we render for commercial TV... I'm guessing we will render back to mini-DV tape... but I guess I overlooked "render to tape" on the Render screen... maybe someone would be kind enought to point out where that option is.

By commercial TV I mean rendering for local TV stations... I'm guessing that most people render back to mini-DV tape... right?

I"m just looking for some typical settings one may do to get me familiar with how to change the various rendering parameters in Vegas... as opposed to just using one of the render templates.

Thanks again for any help folks.

The [Custom] button is your friend! Chose a template that's close to what you want, then click Custom. You can set any frame size, frame rate, and bitrate you want.

Got it! Thanks Chineworks. Once you said that and I sat down at Vegas... it all came back to me.

Your comment was just enough to remind me.

And thanks to everybody for all their help.
