This happened to me before. It was a MiniDV tape. Here is what I did. Fortunately, I was able to capture the video. I captured the video. I am into martial arts, so I have a very sharp "self defense knife". You can buy one of these at a local martial arts studio (or they will know where to get one) for about $25.00.
With this knife, I proceeded to carefully "cut up" the MiniDV tape. Gradually, the case broke apart and I took the actual tape out and all the plastic parts. Obviously, I had to throw all of that away, but THE CAMERA IS FINE.
***If you do this, be very. very careful with the knife, you can seriously injure yourself. Also, if you are stopped by the police while you have the knife, you need to let them know you have it.
We're in Bellevue, WA, just outside Seattle. Have done hundreds of repairs to everything from VHS to miniDV tapes. We gave up that part of our business because of the time involved in each repair, but give us a call at 425-641-4811 (M-F 10-6 PDT) and we'll try to help a fellow Vegas user.
