You probably will do this now anyway... but I'll say it anyway. Always... always... save NEW versions of your files rather than simply saving to the same file each time.

As I work on my editing throughout the day at various points I save an entirely new version. This allows for backups (in cases like you have encountered) and also allows for an easy "roll-back" to any previous version.

and... to try and help you out... (if it is not too late).... make sure you save that file to a different file name.
Search for any *.veg.bak files (you may have an auto-generated backup file of your work).
There is also an "autosave" file that is stored somewhere... cannot remember where these are... maybe something can be found related to this.

.. and yes I go: MyProj1.veg; MyProj2; MyProj3.veg;

.. and somtimes when I have a "version" of a sub proj I go MyProj5a.veg; MyProj5b.veg .. .

The other thing to add from our suggestions, is that you can dip into mid projects and go down another route too! . .and and and . .you will have a fall back AND a place to identuify a dodgy clip that might be causing you grief - as per!

Veggies aint fattening! They are LoCal .. so wont clog up the PC.

Grazie, just use the Save Veg Wizard in Neon and it will append the date/time to each save and still let you keep the same base file name as the "current" one.

Thank you for your replies. I will from now on make new versions of the veg file.
Some good news on my project, I did a search and found a newer save of my project in a temp folder of some type. Strange thing is that the same veg file was saved into 3 other different folders around the drive.
Anyway, all is well once again.

Aha... I have a suggestion as to how this happens... as the same thing happens to me sometimes.

Whenever you use any "feature" in Vegas that brings up the file dialog - Vegas latches on to the last directory that you selected and makes THAT the place where it will save the Veg file you are working on. To me - this is inexplicable and highly undesirable behaviour. It should ALWAYS save the veg file back to the same directory you opened it from unless I tell it otherwise.

I would consider this a bug.. but perhaps sony considers it a "feature"

This would only happen when doing a "Save As". When doing a standard save it will simply save back over the original file (creating the .bak in the process).
